Cheryl Cole has turned to religion after her "worst year ever", according to the Sun. This year the Fight For This Love singer battled malaria and divorced her serial-cheating husband Ashley Cole.
A source told the Sun that Cheryl, 27, who is also a judge on the X Factor, feels closest to Christianity as her mother, Joan, regularly attends church. "Cheryl has awakened her spiritual side. She has been tapping into higher powers for answers and guidance," the source said. "She's been doing some deep thinking - especially after malaria.
Christianity is closest to her, but she's open to other religious influences." Turning to religion after a difficult time may be the best thing for Cheryl, as scientists recently revealed recently that going to church is linked with happiness.
According to the Daily Mail, scientists at the University of Wisconsin Madison said that the social benefits of religion rather than the spiritual elements make people happy. "In particular, we find that friendships built in religious congregations are the secret ingredient in religion that makes people happier," Chaeyoon Lim, one of the scientists, said.
