Lesley Jones on David
Blunkett's ID Card Proposals
Along
with several of my Christian friends, I am very concerned
about David Blunkett's proposals to make ID cards compulsory
in the next 10 years, partly because of the encroachment
on personal liberty, and also because we are mindful of
the prophecies in the book Revelation.
This
proposal has not yet become law, and I believe that if
Christians in this nation get praying now, this can still
be "held back", or postponed for a number of years. Bearing
in mind what the the scriptures say about the end times,
we know that things like this will happen eventually,
but I believe that, through prayer, we can buy more time,
and there are so many places that still need to hear the
Gospel that we need that time.
I
would be interested to hear whether other groups of Christians
or Churches are praying into this particular issue, or
have started prayer initiatives. Has the church woken
up to this? I wonder whether it is as a result of people's
prayers, that we still don't have the Euro in the UK,
and that the issue seems to have been put on hold.
In
the same way, the ID card doesn't have to happen yet.
It's all too easy for the church to be passive, but the
time to gear up and get praying, is now. There is still
time to pray, but we need to seize the moment. Don't give
Satan, or those who unwittingly serve his agenda, the
advantage of a vacuum. We need to intercede, unite and
stand together, and we need to do it now!
