Increasing drug use among children
The loss of moral values within society has been further highlighted by new figures which show that the number of children being treated for cocaine addictions has risen sharply.
According to statistics released by the National Treatment Agency, since 2005 the number of young people being treated for dependence on the drug has gone up 65 per cent.
A House of Commons committee report blamed the drug's increasing popularity on celebrities, who they said helped to normalise its use.
The report said that it had contributed towards a "general trend of glamorising use, as does the social acceptability and normalisation generated by 'successful' people who appear to function normally".
"These are doubly dangerous as they contribute to the misguided reputation of cocaine as a relatively safe and non-addictive drug," the report added.
Earlier this month, a number of senior Archbishops attacked the state of modern society, claiming that greed and selfishness was leading to a deterioration in traditionally-held values.
