Modern society 'does not value' traditional morals
Archbishops have attacked modern society, branding it "selfish" and claiming that commercial greed is held in higher esteem than traditional values.
According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, the church leaders outlined their thoughts in a new document entitled 'Choosing the Common Good'. It sets out the church's position on subjects such as falling marriage rates and the ever increasing gap between rich and poor in society.
The document's recommendations included ensuring public policy supported marriage and it also described the ever increasing breakdown of the family unit as a "tragic" occurrence.
The news provider reported Rev Peter Smith, the Archbishop of Cardiff, as saying: "The political scandal of expenses, the economic crisis … left people very distrustful. "The key to restoring trust is that the leadership in institutions must been seen as people of integrity who live a life of virtue and can help to restore the trust that has been lost."
Earlier this year, a sociologist claimed that more single parents were now making a "lifestyle choice" to become dependent on the state.
