More must be done to address gender imbalance in the CoE
The Church of England (CoE) has been called upon to address the issue of women outnumbering men in congregations, it has been announced.
Proposals put to the general synod challenge the CoE to address the "gender imbalance" present in the modern church, an issue which has been described as being "seriously out of line".
Rev Michael Hill responded to the accusations by saying: "I believe every bishop is concerned to build a well-balanced church and mission amongst men and young people."
Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph reported that Dr Philip Giddings, chairman of the Mission and Public Affairs Council, said there was no room for complacency about the matter. "
Strategies to reach young people and men of all ages are vital in our witness and very much on the Mission and Public Affairs agenda," he added.
The CoE risks a mass exodus of traditionalists over its decision to ordain female bishops, with many not wanting to see women consecrated to the episcopate.
