Child wellbeing will 'directly impact' social development

Children who grow up with a good stable family are more likely to create that environment for themselves when they get older, it has been claimed.

Amy Schofield, editor of education and parenting website www.mychild.co.uk, believes that a happy upbringing will have a knock-on effect on future society.

She said that the attitude instilled within children at a young age will stay with them throughout life. "If children feel secure and safe from an early age, within a home where all members of the family respect as well as love each other, then they are probably more likely to create that life for themselves as adults and for their children," she said.

Meanwhile, a study carried out by the Children's Society shows that the amount of family conflict surrounding a child as they grow up will have a direct effect on their general wellbeing. In a table measuring child wellbeing, the UK is currently ranked 24th out of 29 European countries.
