Gap 'must be closed' between rich and poor
A Christian charity has called upon politicians to make closing the widening gap between rich and poor a priority. An Anatomy of Economic Inequality in the UK, shows that the wealthiest ten per cent of the population is now more than 100 times better off than the poorest section of society.
Church Action on Poverty (CAP) is campaigning for the government to do something about this rising inequality.
Niall Cooper, the man coordinating the campaign, said: "These shocking findings demand urgent attention and should be a wake-up call to churches and political parties alike.
"The gospel message is clear - this level of inequality, and the damage it does to families, communities and the nation as a whole, is contrary to God's will."
Mr Cooper encouraged Christians to speak out to bridge the gap between social classes. The report draws particular attention to the negative impact being born into a poor disadvantaged background has on children.
Church Action on Poverty is a national Christian charity, committed to tackling poverty in the UK.
