Rotting fruit

by Rita Bonny
Sometimes we treat the resources that God has given us in the same way. We admire the fruit of the Spirit, we know we need it, and yet we rush past the place where it is available. Although the fruit of the Spirit is something that should develop as we grow in our faith, there are so many Christians who lack these qualities.

Perhaps it would be helpful to regard the fruit of the Spirit not just something we will produce as the years go by, but as something we could have access to every day. It could be available in each situation the moment we need it. If we just stopped and prayed quietly asking the Holy Spirit to help us, He could equip us to display a godly attitude or act in a righteous way there and then.

The resources that God provides for everyday life are like a continuous supply of fresh fruit. It is up to us what we do with it. We could ignore and waste it and use substitutes that are not so helpful. Or we could choose what is good and healthy and be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2).

Prayer:

Lord, please help me to remember that your Holy Spirit is willing to advise me at any time of the day. Remind me to ask for love, patience and self-control when I need them most.
