A Gallup survey in 1993 found that 25% of those questioned had consulted a fortune-teller. 20% believed everything they read in their horoscopes, and nearly 50% thought it was possible to forecast that something was going to happen.

At the outset it is important that we must not confuse astronomy - the study of the heavens with astrology - the prediction of the future. God placed the stars in the heavens [See Genesis1:14-19] and there is nothing wrong with studying God's creation or even giving names to certain groups of stars. [See Job 38:31]
The word 'astrology' comes from two Greek words, astra meaning star and logos meaning word; thus, it ac-tually means 'the word of the stars.' Astrologers believe that there is a direct link between the combination of these heavenly bodies at the time you were born and your behaviour and destiny while you live on the earth.
Astrology claims to have its roots in Mesopotamia some 5,000 years ago. Archaeologists also say that the Tower of Babel, mentioned in Genesis 11 was a ziggurat; an astrological pyramid-shaped monument.
"This earliest form of astrology was connected with the worship of the stars, or Tsabaitism. The 'stars' were 'consulted' and viewed as having power over man because they were assumed to be gods. This ancient form of planetary worship is the reason God destroyed the Tower of Babel (Gen.11:1-9). The infamous tower was not constructed to reach 'unto heaven' as mistakenly translated in the KJV. Rather, archaeologists identify the Tower of Babel as a ziggurat or astrological tower on top of which priests could conduct the viewing and worship of the sun, moon, and planets."- Horoscopes and the Christian, Robert A. Morey, 1981, pp.7-8.
There is evidence of an abundance of astrologers in most major ancient civilisations, including the Egyptians, the Incas, the Greeks and the Romans. Some say that modern astrology began with Ptolemy, a Greek living around AD 150.

Pressure
Many famous people give astrology a sense of respectability adding pressure to those who do not want to be involved. The following quotations give evidence of this.
"Public figures, from the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of York to Stanley Els, the US Open golf champion, and Sylvester Stallone, have not been slow to go with the flow. Princess Diana sees a psychic and has a penchant for crystals; Fergie prompted headlines over her visits to Madame Vasso and her blue pyramid. Els is known to have 'a thing' about No 2 balls and Stallone is said to have planned the birth of his son so he would be a Taurus with Libra Moon and Leo Rising (for intelligence, apparently)" - The Independent, 10 February 1995

Demonic ?
Just because something is popular, it does not mean that it is evil! Nevertheless, what popularity often does is stop us checking carefully into the subject. Where then is the proof that it is demonic, part of this supernaturally evil realm? We do need to make it clear that we do not believe that everyone who reads his or her horoscope is 'demon possessed'. What we do have to understand though is that there are different levels of horoscopes and therefore different powers that people will be working under. The further you delve into astrology and the more personal it gets the more likely you are to meet up with some form of supernatural power which is not from God.
Astrology itself claims to give supernatural answers. The stars that God placed there as lights in the heaven and to show us the various seasons of the years, have been given supernatural powers to lead and guide our lives. The question is where does this supernatural power come from, the natural stars themselves or something beyond?
If it were from God then we would expect the Bible to speak positively about it. In reality, the opposite is true, as the following verses show.
"You are wearied with many counsels; Let now your astrologers, those who prophesy by the stars, those who predict by the new moons, stand up and save you from what will come upon you. Behold, they have become like stubble, fire burns them; They cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame." - Isaiah 47:12-13.
