SALVATION
Mormonism declares that salvation is of works,
their 3rd Article of Faith states,
We believe that through the Atonement of Christ,
all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the
laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
Salvation is on different tiers depending on how
many works you have accomplished at the Temple.
For instance, the Bible shows that salvation is
by grace alone and that the works we do after
being saved are those that God has prepared for
us. - Ephesians 2:8-10.
FULLNESS
Mormons show in the first paragraph of the Introduction
to the Book of Mormon that the Bible contains
"the fullness of the everlasting gospel."
They then go on to title the Book of Mormon as
"another Testament of Jesus Christ."
As the Bible contains the fullness and is everlasting,
anything added must be false. The Book of Mormon
must therefore be 'another' in the sense of different
to and not as well as.
JERUSALEM OR BETHLEHEM?
The Book of Mormon declares that Jesus was born
at Jerusalem, which is explained as being an area
not the town. The Bible gives great prophetic
significance to Bethlehem being where King David
came from and being the 'House of Bread.' Micah
also prophesied that Jesus would be born here
700 years before the event took place. God could
not make a mistake about the birthplace of His
Son.
EARLY MORMONS
Early Mormons did not want to call themselves
Christians. They were delighted to be different
to Christianity and all the churches, which they
thought were apostate. - Journal of Discourses,
Vol.6, p.167. [These words were spoken by John
Taylor, 3rd President of the Church].
GOD ONCE A MAN
Mormons teach that God was once a man.
"God himself was once as we are now, and
is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder
heavens! ... I am going to tell you how God became
to be God. We have imagined and supposed that
God was God from all eternity. I will refute that
idea, and take away the veil, that you may see."
- Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pp.344/5
compiled by Joseph Fielding Smith.
Their belief in one God who was once a man and
not a Trinity is not only denied by the Bible
but also by their own Book of Mormon as can be
seen by the following texts amongst others.
Moroni 8:18 - For I know that God is not a partial
God, neither a changeable being; but he is unchangeable
from all eternity to eternity.
2 Nephi 26:12 - ... Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal
God. He is not then just one of his many sons.
Mormon 9:9 - For do we not read that God is the
same yesterday, today and forever, and in him
there is no variableness nei-ther shadow of changing.
They also go on to teach that men can become gods,
another teaching that is at odds with the Bible.
"Here the eternal life
and you have
to learn how to be Gods yourselves, and to be
kings and priests to God, the same as all Gods
have done before you."
- Journal of Discourses, Joseph Smith, 1844, Vol.6,
p.4.
BAPTISE THE DEAD
Mormons baptise for the dead which is a practice
carried on by the pagans in Corinth. This was
never part of Christian salvation.
BOOK OF ABRAHAM
The Book of Abraham is one of the Scriptures of
the Mormon Church. Joseph Smith claimed that he
translated it from the Lord and Mormons accept
it as from God. Historical sources within and
without the Church that have examined the original
Egyptian document have shown it was a fake and
does not contain 'Scripture' at all. If this one
part of the Scriptures of Mormonism is unreliable
how much more?
