Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Hebrews 12:1

Gaining strength in the Lord is no good to you if you are continually returning to a pattern of sin that is destructive. You might say; but I can’t help it or it’s too hard to overcome, I guess I’ll just have to accept my lot in life. That is a lie from Satan, you are not called to live a life of bondage and defeat! Do you know have any idea who you are?  You are a citizen of heaven, God has ordained us as his royal priesthood, his sons and daughters who are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ (Rom8:17).

Isn`t that amazing, I find that if you research who you are meant to be in Christ, you`ll know that your returning to a pattern of sin is not worth compromising what you’ve been entrusted with as a son or daughter of the Living God. You have no place in the enemy’s camp, you have a higher calling!

The first step to getting rid of that pattern of sin, firstly, by taking a look at the root cause and if you pray and ask God to reveal it, he will be faithful in doing so. It might be wrong mindset that you’ve had since a child, bad company that influences your behaviour or even a generational sin that your father struggled with as well.

Secondly, know who you are in Christ Jesus and start to fight it with the word of God. God has given you the keys to the Kingdom of heaven, whatever you bind or loose will be bound or loosed in heaven (Math 16:19). I am guilty of forgetting that I’m a custodian of these keys and I’m able to bind the devil’s plans in my life, don’t let this sin take up any more of your precious time. 

God’s plan for your life is worth far more than a few moments pleasure or allowing your nature to take control of the spirit within you. This life isn’t easy and I know that temptation can be everywhere but the word of God tells us that there is no sin common to man and that there will always be a way of escape.

Get into the word, pray about this sin and look for biblical material on how to use the word to overcome it. Confess scriptures that bind that sin in the morning before your day starts or whenever you feel tempted.

Lastly, be on guard, never give into sin and wallow in it, you’re missing out on the glorious plan that God has for you and more importantly, wasting time indulging in something that wants to destroy you.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank you for the love that you have for me. Help me to open my eyes to the sin that can so easily entangle me, help me to use the tools that you’ve given me to overcome this sin and live the life that you want me to live.  A life of freedom, free from bondage and slavery of sin, in Jesus name, amen.
