'Alarming' figures show need for more education on cosmetic surgery
Young people need more education about cosmetic surgery, according to one expert.
New research, carried out by GoodSurgeonGuide.co.uk, shows a large proportion of teenage girls are keen to undergo some form of cosmetic treatment, with two in every five girls aged 13 to16 wanting to go under the knife.
Christiana Clogg, co-founder of GoodSurgeonGuide.co.uk, described the findings as "alarming", declaring it disappointing that a large proportion of those wanting surgery felt bullied into it.
"I think this is an issue that definitely needs addressing and is something young people need to learn more about," she said.
The main reason given for the desire to have surgery was self-confidence, with one in three claiming that they would feel better about themselves if they were able to alter their appearance.
Last year GoodSurgeonGuide.co.uk revealed that 61 per cent of people were disappointed with the results of their cosmetic procedure.
